October 26th Ratings – Looking Good…

posted on November 6, 2010 by bwandersee

Another solid night for ‘Detroit 1-8-7′ on the 26th.  The show pulled in 8.8 million viewers, giving it a solid lock on second place at ten pm.  While ‘The Good Wife’ continues to hold the number one spot, I really don’t think that those viewers are the ones who would be interested in ‘Detroit 1-8-7′ anyway.  So the best way to get the numbers up is word-of-mouth.  Tell your friends about this killer new drama – and keep tuning in!  Don’t forget there’s an all-new episode Tuesday night.  See you then…

I just wanted to let everyone associated with Detroit 1-8-7 know how thankful I am to them for bringing this show to life and for the fine job that’s being done on behalf of our city. Some are concerned about the homocide aspect of the show but if you look and listen, you can see that they are using real time Detroit issues and initiatives as backdrops to each story.
The rest of the country needs to see our city for what it is and the potential that exists here and Detroit 1-8-7 is key in achieving that very thing.
ABC, PLEASE keep this show on the air and give it the chance it deserves.
Thank you!

My daughter urged me to watch Detroit 1-8-7 a few weeks ago and I was not disappointed. I loved Michael Imperioli in ‘Life on Mars’ which was sadly cancelled and was thrilled to see him back in another gritty crime drama. Week after week Fitch’s character is peeled back like an onion, a layer at a time. It is going to be so much fun watching this happen over the upcoming weeks.

ABC, PLEASE DO NOT cancel this terrific show which is building a large fan following. Do not put it on hiatus or move it to a new time slot UNLESS you let us know well in advance….and keep reminding us, as we’re not always able to find out the status or whereabouts of our favourite shows.

On a related note, part of the problem with keeping some of these well-crafted shows on the air seems to be a network’s inability to determine the TOTAL number of viewers, including those who record these shows for later, more convenient viewing. Is there no way for networks to devise a method that properly measures viewership when people TiVo (US) / PVR (Cdn) their favourite programs?

I would appreciate hearing that something is being done to correct this problem. It is all too often that we get attached to amazing shows only to have them put on hold, placed in a new time slot, or even worse, cancelled. It would be great if you could give new shows one full season each in a fixed time slot, so as to build a strong fan base.

Your network was the one that carried ‘Life on Mars’ and set it up to fail by switching time slots and putting it on ‘vacation’, repeatedly. Not surprising that between these tactics and the TiVo/PVR dilemma, the show didn’t have a chance. I’m not sure if the Nielsen Ratings still use random households to determine weekly viewing habits but I think it would help networks to have a more complete picture. Years ago, my family and I took part in a 2-week TV ratings questionnaire in Toronto that, besides being a lot of fun, helped to measure our programming habits. In the absence of a better method, going back to a tried-and-true way of determining viewership might do two things; allow the networks enough time to realize profits from their investment and also give the public enough time to see a full season, start to finish, and then be able to decide their favourite shows for that new season.

Thank you for listening….

I absolutely love this show! I may be living in the West, but I grew up in Michigan and it’s about time a show about Detroit made it to TV. The cast and stories are great – please keep this show on the air.

Since Homoside Life On The Streets went off the air I have been hoping for something worth taking it’s place.Detroit 1-8-7 is it and thank god.Great writing, actors that look like cops,a set that looks like a squad room and a gritty plot.IT’S SIMPLY GREAT!!!!!!!!!

Detroit 187 is the best cop show on the air, period. I started watching it a few episodes into the season, and now it is can’t-miss tv for me. I loved seeing the pilot for the first time last night. This show is incredibly compelling and better than any crime drama I’ve seen in years.

This show keeps getting better and better. The episode last week dealing with race relations was honest, touching and funny at the same time. The ensemble cast is finding its groove and the writing and camera work are among the strongest on broadcast TV. I hope we have many seasons more.

I have been watching this show since it began and I look forward to seeing it every week…why is it networks like ABc cancel a good cop show to put some junky reality show on……..look at Southland when NBC cancelled it, it is in its 3rd season on TNT and getting great ratings, they recognized a good show when they saw it.

As a former Detroiter, now living in Oregon, I tuned in to watch Detroit 1-8-7 out of curiosity, mainly. Let it be said, I normally do NOT watch TV at all! But I had to see this show.

I was not disappointed and, surprising to myself, I absolutely LOVE this show! Very believable characters, terrific acting, filmed on location (BBBrrrr!) and wonderful writing. I am STUCK on Detroit 187! Hope it continues for several years.
