Week Three – Hanging in There

posted on October 11, 2010 by bwandersee

Episode three of “Detroit 1-8-7″ slipped a bit in the ratings department, down to just over 7.8 million viewers.  That’s down from 8.7 million viewers last Tuesday night.

CBS and “The Good Wife” continue to hold down the top spot at 10 p.m. , with “Detroit 1-8-7″ taking second.  NBC’s “Parenthood” is a distant third.

The critics are split on  “Detroit 1-8-7″ as well.  Some have called it the best police procedural since “Hill Street Blues”, while others say it’s just another cookie-cutter cop show.

At any rate, there is no such thing as negative publicity.  If a bad review gets someone to watch and decide for themselves, that’s just fine.  In the meantime, make sure you’re tuned in Tuesday’s at 10.  And we’ll be here watching.

Sorry, DE-troit 187. The one factor that does not RING true in this otherwise decent show is the complete lack of local DIALECT used in the show. Have you ever actually heard someone from DE-troit speak? It’s colorful and highly recognizable. Even the body gets involved in the conversation. The local dialect is an as-yet untapped treasure that distinguishes the Motor City from all other locales. The characters should resemble the FLA-vor of the actual community which they portray. Another interesting aspect would be to depict a scene that juxtapose the Detroit accent with our Canadian neighbors across the river. They are some of the Lions’ most loyal fans:) Thanks for listening!

coming from the Detroit area i do agree that there is a dialect that is different then others areas, but it is nit THAT different that it warrants everyone to speak it. As the south, northeast, or Bronx. If that is the only thing you can find fault with the show…. Otherwise I think the show is getting better each Tuesday. The writers & actors are becoming more comfortable with their roles, I can only hope that ABC will let this show find it’s legs and more viewers will watch. Spread the word!!!!!
