I wanted to see some rows of burned out houses and crack zombies.

This show showed Detroit through rose colored glasses, and focused on only “functioning” neighborhoods.

That being said I think the writing and the acting were top notch. The show is actually good. Michael Imperioli and James McDaniel were both really something.

I think this show will feature good stories and great acting. I am impressed with it.

Alisha B on September 22, 2010

Why base the show in Detroit if you’re not going to take the time to do the research on Detroit Culture? We say “pop” not soda!! We don’t wear gold teeth!! Detroit is 95% black but the first episode is about a white man!! And the whole Motown thing is old. Play some Eminem or something. Get back to the drawing board. Get some Native Detroiters to help with accuracy.

Michigander by heart on September 22, 2010

Well, I did like the show even though they said “soda” and not the accurate “pop” boy those streets they look nice, what part of Detroit is that suppose to be all lit up like that?, anyway glad too see a Detroit show finally make it to the primetime :)
and would even be most rewarding to hear Motown, Kid Rock, Eminem, Seger! Again glad to see Detroit on TV (all the way here in Cali.)

Michigander on September 22, 2010

Pop.
750, not 187.
Etc. Don’t you have any technical advisors from Detroit?

terrence on September 22, 2010

i loved the first episode or should i say at least 59 minutes of it. WHY DID THE BLACK GUY HAVE TO DIE ON THE FIRST EPISODE. I thought he was going to be a great new actor but they killed him in the FIRST EPISODE. Other than that i loved this show. :)

Robert on September 22, 2010

Weak. Nothing I haven’t see before. Good to know filming is going on in the D, but it doesen’t stand out from any other Cop show. I’ll give it 4 weeks it will be gone. Think more out side the box.

Bob K on September 22, 2010

I will watch the show next week.I feel that Detroit 187 has an excellent cast, but the writing needs to improve. This show has potential. I hope it will honestly show what it is like south of 8 mile road. I hope some of your writers are from Detroit and are African American.

Chris on September 22, 2010

I liked the comment about fighting crime in Detroit to keep it out of Ferndale. So true.

It was a great first episode. Just something to keep in mind though, we call it pop not soda.

Rob on September 22, 2010

Time well tell, this was only the 1st episode. I agree the show is still a little raw, but I never thought there would ever be a show remotely close to the caliber of NYPD Blue, but this show has defiantely the potential. With a “Blue” vet and Michael Imperioli this show could become one pf the best shows ever on television.

stevieg on September 22, 2010

Good format not the usual cheesy stuff,
keep them coming

Marie on September 22, 2010

I hope this doesn’t turn out to be just another cop show…there is a lot of potential here. I will say that the writers should really do their homework if they want to make an authentic show based in Detroit. We do not say soda…it is pop.

Susan Werner on September 22, 2010

I loved this show! Michael Imperioli is superb! I loved the acting, the writing, the story lines, and the camera work. I will be watching this for years, I am sure. It is about time we got some excellent shows on broadcast television! This show is so good, it could be on cable :)

Jim on September 22, 2010

I agree, hope the writers have some old time DPD vets helping with the writing. Coming fro 20 years in Law Enforcement I think it will be a show. I agree with the pop thing they have to get the lingo right.

Valencia Sanders on September 22, 2010

The jury is still out. It was terrible, but it wasn’t great either. I was looking for more name actors. They did mention some streets that I know Cass & Temple, I saw the people mover, and also saw W. Grand Blvd. & Warren. I’ll definately give it another try for Detroit.

susan on September 22, 2010

I enjoyed the show. Familiar sites, & street names made it authentic, the lack of cars on the street in some scenes made it look like home. Hospital scene hit home too! Pop thing, not a big deal. Acting was really good. Give the show a chance. Because the industry is definitely giving Detroit & Michigan a shot. Overall, it was a hit. I waited for this one all summer, & I was not disappointed.

Mike on September 22, 2010

Great show! I think we need to see some of the Saprano Cast on upcoming episodes. Thats where Michael I got his name not from Spyder on Good Fellows. The ratings would sky rocket. Mike did awesome in the interegation room, very solid scene.

Maybe even have Jeff Daniels should have a short spot, he’s a Michigan boy and has a big following.

Also, include some Toledo talk in their we’re right down the road. Again awesome first episode. Mike

Mike D on September 22, 2010

Hey Terrence the “black guy didn’t die in the first episode”. He got shot. In the previews for the next episode they didn’t say he died. Also, the actor did an interview about his upcoming role on the show.

People in Detroit were so concerned this show would “make them look bad”. Most should realize by now that ABC and this show are doing the city a huge favor. And don’t worry…I know you don’t want to watch Michael Imperioli because he’s white…..but they should keep plenty of black actors on the show to keep you happy.

This show has the potential to be great.

PirateGal on September 22, 2010

Yes, they mention him in the previews of the next episode. I hope he is not dead. That quick ending surprised the heck out of me.

James on September 22, 2010

Really enjoyed the show..one can see that Detroit is not all bad.Like most cities it has its own culture and while it has its problems most people carry on with their lives as best they can.

By the way, the writers got it wrong…there are nearly 7 billion people in the world…not just over 6 billion!

Alex on September 22, 2010

I have to be honest, if they want this show to work they need to do better writing and not make it cheesy. All the writers have to do is do a few ride alongs with the Detroit PD and they will have genuine ideas and a great show. it has great potential. BTW, in real life a person who kills 4 people and is caught would never be uncuffed or given a chance to grab an officers gun. Little less bs and a little more reality

Txjack on September 22, 2010

I liked the show. It set up the characters well, seeing personalities, quirks, likes/dislikes. It was a little uneven, but I think that will smooth out over time. I thought the cast was great and really enjoyed Michael Imperioli (which is really the ONLY reason I tuned in). I normally don’t even watch network TV.

Mike on September 22, 2010

Show was pretty good, Detroiters do NOT say “soda” its “pop”. Not many African American actors thought that was odd.

linda caldwell on September 22, 2010

Born and raised in Detroit. It is “POP” not soda…Don’t forget “White Castle” not just coney island…I also agree with previous comment about showing what life is really like S. of 8 mile. More empty blocks, after city blocks please. Because MAYBE if shown, some groups of caring people will do something about bringing the city back to her glory days. It is heartbreaking to see what has happened over the last 20 yrs. or so. Overall acting was good and I liked the twist @ the end. (Even if not exactly realistic) One more thing…enough with the “shakey” camera already, sheeesh!!!!!!

Mike on September 22, 2010

Lafayette Coney Island is better than American Coney Island. Waiting to see Big Boy, Buddy’s Pizza, White Castle and Hockeytown USA.

GirlWorld on September 22, 2010

I have been all over the world and Detroit is still my favorite city. This is truly a proud blue collar town, and no matter how down on it knees Detroit gets, you know it will always get back up. The people have cold feet and warm hearts. If you show the true soul of Detroit, the TV show will soar. BTW – Detroit does not have a subway an it’s POP not soda.

ap on September 22, 2010

It was just ok. I am hoping the decision makers follow the advice of the viewers and make it more realistic, stop with the bleep bleeps for “bad” words, work more closely with the real cops and the police lady really needs to state she came here from New York or loose the accent. The acting was ok, but emotions only showed up for me when the phone rang after the young cop was shot. It didn’t keep me at the edge of my seat but I will give it a few more chances to see if anything changes. Good luck!

renman2000 on September 22, 2010

This show is not going to last long unless they get better writers and a decent director.
They are trying to make this “look” like a documentary, which is why the shaky camera happens, but it is done like an after thought. Only occasionally does anyone react to the “camera” and mostly just for effect. NYPD Blue looked more like a documentary than this. In fact, this show looks just like NYPD Blue but with 2nd rate writing/directing.
Big problems:
The title should be Detroit 750.
Yeah, we say pop, not soda.
The guy lawyers up and the kid instantly stops talking and walks out? Even a rookie detective isn’t that naive.
Random shell casings on a bridge? Cute, but total bs.
Sorry, but if the “camera guy” can see the bad guy through the blinds, so can the SWAT team…which means dead perp.
And yeah, this half-crazed guy would never be out of handcuffs outside interrogation, then grabs a second cop’s gun?
I watched this show because it was set in Detroit, but even my extremely loyalty (I still root for the Lions) will not get me to watch a whole season of this.
Give me a call if you want help fixing this, otherwise, get it off the air.

suburbanite on September 22, 2010

I liked the show, mostly because it was cool to see familiar places, but give me a break.. they made Detroit look WAY better than reality!!

When they found the dead body by the train tracks, the gawkers were mostly white which was absolutely ridiculous. I’m actually surprised they have pharmacy’s in detroit, when they don’t even have supermarkets.

I understand how they have to make the main cast various ethnicities, but the ‘real’ detroit… not the greektown/sports arena area, is probably 99.5% black.

The neighborhoods were way too nice, and even the little park with grass & a slide was way too well kempt to be anywhere in detroit. Detroiters should be kissing the producers butt’s for making detroit look good, instead of the shit hole that it really is.

Ramsay on September 23, 2010

I was looking for more authentic scenery. The accents aren’t even close to Detroit, or even Michigananders. Why am I not surprised they killed off a Black man in the first episode. I like Imperioli and since I miss the D it’s nice to see a little bit of my former home. You can tell it’s shot in Allen Park not Detroit proper. The definetly need some Detroit consultants

Erica Whitesell on September 23, 2010

Thank Goodness for a show set in Detroit. I don’t normally watch cop shows but I am looking forward to continuing this one. Get the slang down though please!

Bobby on September 23, 2010

I enjoyed the first show and I think it has lots of potential. I agree with the above comments about “pop,” Michigan accents/dialect, and portraying more of the image that most people associate with Detroit. Also I love the use of the Black Keys in the soundtrack!

Henry Frankel on September 23, 2010

While Michael Imperioli is no Edie Falco, he is certainly capable of carrying a broadcast network cop show,a la Vincent D’Nofrio in CSI Criminal Intent, and has certainly earned the right to do so, whether he’s drinking or dispensing Pop or Soda. One crime and one detective crew per episode seems to be slightly beyond the executive and creative talents involved. Good luck Mike, it ain’t your fault.

Greg on September 23, 2010

Here’s the thing: people around the country don’t know (or care) that we say pop instead of soda. They don’t know (or care) that some scenes are filmed in Allen Park instead of downtown. If they had placed the show in Cleveland, you’d all be complaining that “they never do things like that here.” If they showed the real underbelly of the city, you’d all be complaining that they were “making us look bad to the rest of the country.” Just enjoy the show (or don’t) and be glad they are doing it here and enjoy seeing the familiar places. Life is too short. It’s just a TV show.

Kelly on September 23, 2010

awesome show! wonderful actors! great story, great hook at the end…
Hey Greg, if you notice above people around the country were commenting on those things–it appears they do care…. There is nothing wrong with authenticity, it is supposed to be Detroit, why not see real Detroit? Many Detroit shots didn’t look familiar to me–I heard it was shot in Atlanta…and yeah, no one says soda…

Former Detroiter on September 23, 2010

I agree with most of the other comments. The show has potential, but they’ve got to talk to a real Detroiter about the culture of the D. I fly back and forth from Cali to Det all the time and it is real simple for me to switch my vocab from soda to pop back to soda. LOL.. My biggest complaint is that there is no station called wmxt ch 17. Get it together, writers.

Mike S on September 23, 2010

I have been waiting for the show’s premier for a while now and I have to say I see promise but overall I was a little disappointed. The main character seems to be “too good” at what he can do. He’s seen it all, he can walk into an interview and not say a word and get a confession, he is a skilled expert hostage negotiator. I felt like there was way too much crammed into a pilot, and there is not a challenge he can’t rise up to. The comedy at times felt like Rush Hour which destroyed credibility when the show attempted to get serious at the very end. It seemed like a bit of a pretentious start for what TV so desperately needs right now. (A great Cop Drama) I think back to the greatest cop dramas like Hill Street Blues and my fav NYPD Blue and there were elements of television storytelling that were completely revolutionary. I think back to the pilot of NYPD blue and the feeling I got that I was in for a ride. The imperfection of the characters made me feel like it was real. I know this is not intended to be the same show but in reality nothing really stood out to me as “Wow!” other than maybe James McDaniel’s character (of which I would hate to see him retire). Everyone else seemed too “cookie cut”. You got your lead role who doesn’t go by the books but he gets results, you got your fiery latina, there’s a female boss with an attitude, there’s a narc officer who poses for the department calender, and of course Chris Tucker minus Jackie Chan. The show could use a writing overhaul as they managed to jump the shark a bit too early. There has been a lot of hype for the show and interviews with the actors and it seems that they are very proud to be in the show. I will give it a second chance but my expectations have dropped.

m b on September 23, 2010

I ENJOYED THE FIRST 40 MIN THEN THE STATION CUT OUT SO NEVER DID GET TO SEE THE ENDING BUT SO FAR GOOD

Duhmann2001 on September 24, 2010

I actually stumbled on this site because I’m from western Pennsylvania the other place that says pop for soda & googled that as a question. This area has also had a huge influence of Detroit linked drug busts. I hope it does well & the stories improve along with the writing. Good first episode.

CeeVee on September 24, 2010

The first show was good. Needs to be a bit more grittier. It is a crime show, writers shouldn’t have to worry about placing Detroit in a negative light. It is what it is. I was born and raised in the D. Even though I don’t live there now, I shop, dine and am entertained there. No fear about having fun in the D. I love the Motor City… So come on writers and Mr Producer, more edgier writing. Please do more with Micheal Imperioli’s role… I know Fitch is a strange bird, make him a bit more of a bad a**.. I will be watching the next show for sure. I can’t wait!

Joe on September 24, 2010

I hope terrence didnt die it would be sad if he did he was funny

Greg on September 24, 2010

I thought it was decent. Can’t judge it off of one episode. The Detroit they are showing isn’t the Detroit I know. Too many white people. I’ll be tuning in next week

MJ on September 25, 2010

Lighten up, you guys. This was a very well-written, well-acted, and entertaining show. The characters represented great diversity. I’ve already put it on TiVo but we’ll have to see if these characters can move me like those from NYPD. But, they’ve made a good start. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to.

Bullnitty on September 25, 2010

I’m from Detroit. D-187 is good for Detroit.no it not like it shows how Detroit people are or how detroit is or was. but that o.k. every episode is not going to be like 4-brothers.But if it can help people to wanted to help Detroit to come up,lets keep it moving.

Rosie on September 27, 2010

I enjoyed the first episode, but was not super excited after I saw it. Perhaps too much of the plot was provided in the pre-season commercials and the trailer. This episode seemed a little fake. The plot was somewhat interesting though. James McDaniels & Michael Imperioli are superb actors. But, this episode just did not give me that cop show feeling that i got from NYPD Blue & others. I am a die hard cop show fan & somewhat of an analyst. Something is missing. The scene from the lofts was over exaggerated. People who live in the lofts have good money. Lofts are a trendy place to live in the D. Not sure how the actor who played “James Burke” was in the lofts holding his family hostage;this guy just got out of jail….how could he be in a place like that. At the end of the episode he pulls a gun on the cops who are cuffing him and shoots the rookie detective..this scene has already been done in all the other cop shows. The prelude of chemistry between Sanchez & Fitch, much too premature. The guy was given the “stare-down” interrogation by Fitch said soda. Here in Detroit we say “pop”. Fitch needs to be more abrasive..he was too nice to the rookie detective. Cell phone conversations to critique the rookie’s work, i would have rather seen face to face confrontation and attitude. Detroit cops have attitutude.. a lot of it….especially detectives. No disrespect to them. But,they are bold and much more serious individuals when dealing with the public. Just some observations. I too was born & raised in Detroit and my family as well. Still spend a lot of time here. Just some thoughts! I am looking forward to episode #2.

Judy on September 28, 2010

As a former Detroiter, I was looking forward to this show. However, I was disappointed. It was great to see some familiar places, but it tarnishes Detroit’s image more than helps it. Emphasize what Ford/GM, etc., has done to Detroit and how it deteriorated after more or less abandoning us. Integrate more of the history of Detroit, talk about the Black Bottom, rum running on the Detroit River to Prohibition. It is 95% black for a reason. Show Dick Puritan of WJR handing out free lunches to the homeless as people literally pour out of abandoned homes to get something to eat. Out of all the sadness and tradegy that created the current Detroit, show the true grittiness and the people who care and love the city. Make it a political and social statement; not just a another cop show. Use more Blacks! Show the hidden neighborhoods that are jewels within the city!

Lama K on September 28, 2010

I love Detroit!! I do think they need to get some Detroiters in the show to really show what this place is all about. They need emphasis on what we really have to offer. Show some of the historic neighborhoods! I mean every building has a story. They made Detroit look like a happy go lucky town. It’s definitely not like that. They need to show the toughness of Detroit. And where are all the black people at? Again as everyone said its called “pop”. But overall the show was awesome. Can’t wait for the rest of the season.

A. Brown on September 28, 2010

I was born & raised in Detroit & now I live in Atlanta. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for my fellow Detroiter’s watching the show, as they tried to figure out what part of Detroit certain scenes were filmed in. Well, I was very disappointed to see Atlanta streets with I-94 signs hanging on the telephone poles. They filmed this show in Atlanta!!! Most Detroiter’s were probably thinking that “They must have filmed this on the East Side” (if you live on the west side), or “They must have filmed this on the West side” (if you live on the east side), because ya’ll know we like to stay on “our” side of town! LMAO

Bullnitty on September 28, 2010

Ri on September 29, 2010

Thought the show was really good. Happy to see a show highlighting Detroit, not a perfect show, but the cast is good. I’m a born and raised Chicagoan and Imperioli asking for a “soda” instead of a “pop” bothers me, too. Change that and work on some Detroit accents, show the grit and the great. But, overall, like the show, hope it runs for a few seasons.

Sherry on September 29, 2010

what up doe! need more black actors. the d is 95% black! former Detroiter!

Quan on October 2, 2010

I thought the show was phenomenal. Both the first and second episodes. A bit more polishing needs to be done so that it can fit Detroit’s style. Other than that it was great. Well loved, great actors. The turn out for the show was amazing as well, 13 million viewers, that’s great. I look for to the rest of the season and seasons to follow

Ken on October 3, 2010

Plain & simple, It was a great show with lots of potential and good acting. I love the unique format of story telling.
BUT, the cinematography is horrible with the hand-held, amature camera work including all the unsteady, blurred, and in & out zooms that you would expect from someone using their first digital camera and my friends all agree that it makes the viewer motion sick .

Terry on November 13, 2010

I like the show, good acting. I have one problem tone down on the music so the words can be heard. I DO NOT READ LIPS.

JOSEPH JONES on November 17, 2010

Last night’s episode 11-16-10 at the end of the show the Italian Cop and the Black Cop where talking and the Italian Cop gave his partner, the Black Cop a paper weight that supposedly his son gave him…..then this song came on in the background, something like this: She ran away, don’t know how, but have to start now, I’m gone Die Trying, I’m gone Die Trying” Who Sings This Song and What is the Name of the Song…..PLEASE! Thanks

JOSEPH JONES on November 17, 2010

It is a Great Show with Meaning and Definition……and the actor[‘s are perfect in there respected roll…………Heck I wish I could roll a scene with this crew. I think it was a Brilliant move to put the Black and Latin actor’s who played with Johnny Caruso in that New York Police Seriess where the elderly distinguished Black actor was the captain, and Jimmy Smits toook Caruso’s spot!

Nat on November 26, 2010

The song from the Deja Vu episode is called “Die Trying” by Cee-Lo

Bloodstar on February 7, 2011

Detroit 187 is wack. Whoever says its a good show must be some lamebrain idiots. Its like sweet n sour chicken from tha china man on my block, half cooked and dry as hell. Its all inaccurate, falsified brainwashing by the tv networks who put this garbage out there for everyone to see about my city. The cops out here are corrupt as hell, thats the truth.
